So working with great architects and interior designers like KSID lets me shoot in a wide variety of spaces and locations.  I had the pleasure of shooting one of their newer completed projects, Skybokx 109 restaurant in Natick.  Very cool space now, as I remember what it looked like years and years ago.  It has a super modern and contemporary feel and even this great space in the back with a leather couch and a few leather chairs.  Here's one of my favorite shots from the day.

Commercial Photography | Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

We've been fortunate to have a good relationship with the graphic designers at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and that has blossomed into some very cool projects and events.  Working in conjunction with their architecture firm, KSID, we were asked to photograph the new building, interiors and exteriors, of the Worcester campus.  The college itself is having such a huge positive impact on the Worcester area.  Click on any image to see them larger and go to our commercial website to see more of our work. 

More often than not photography will push you outside of your comfort zone, and hanging off the roof of this building to get the right shot was definitely one of those times.

In the way back on the wall are the large b&w image of ours from the Worcester scenes project - they look AMAZING by the way :)

Love how they incorporated a fully functioning eye wear store right into the building. And yes it will be open to the general public.

Corporate head shots have this feeling surrounding them, a cocoon of boredom perhaps. You must have a head shot and they have to look sharp. However they are not always so exciting, but they can be.

This past Sunday one of our corporate head shots of Bettina Hein CEO and Founder of Pixability Inc. and co-author of Video Marketing For Dummies, landed in the New York Times Business section. Check out the article here and see the wonderfully intense “Boss shot”!

Most of you know us as wedding photographers, well really good wedding photographers, right?  That's what Theresa and I love to do, that's what we're most passionate about and why we have chosen to build the core of our business around it.  Photographing couples in love and being a part of the wedding day is exciting, fast-paced, a little stressful at times but super fun and a real honor.  Yet, so many of those skills we have developed as wedding photographers (finding interesting light, working with people, shooting details, blending in when we have to, crafting images) translate so well into other styles of photography.  And we have been doing all this sort of work up to this point but haven't actively shown or marketed it, until now.  Dun, dun, dun.  So if you're interesting in seeing some non-wedding photography work take a look at our newly launched website - enjoy.

BizBash | Editorial Feature

Ok so this might be a big on the older side, but I just saw this online today so I thought I would share. We volunteered to shoot a charity event in conjunction with the Friends of Boston's Homeless late last year and it was featured in the editorial section of BizBash online.  BizBash is all about events, planning, ideas and resources so it's pretty cool.

But about the event - amazing harvest dinner out on Long Island, no not NY the one that's part of Boston's harbor islands.  Anyway, it's a fantastic fundraising dinner for such an important cause. Some of Boston's best chefs were involved such as:

Architecture Photography | A little structure

I know you'll all be shocked to find out we do in fact point our cameras in directions that don't face beautiful people celebrating.  What??  It's true.  Theresa and I love shooting wedding and that's why we based our business around it, specializing in it.  But really we were trained as artists, trained to see the light.  A truly gifted photographer, John Sexton once wrote, "It is light that reveals, light that obscures, light that communicates. So it is light I 'listen' to."  He's, in my opinion, one of the greatest living American landscape and fine art photographers - see his work here (I've taken a few of his workshops and all I can say is amazing). So my point is that by constantly learning to see the light it helps us make a good image anywhere.  Here's a few architectural images I've made over the last couple of years - and a link to see more.

2011 Boston Brain Tumor Bike Ride | Fusion Movie (stills + video)

You might remember some of the photos from the National Brain Tumor Society Bike Ride we photographed last month.  Here's our previous post.  However, Theresa shot a lot of amazing video with the intention of creating a truly powerful fusion (stills + video) movie that helps to give you a real feel for the event.  There is something so emotional about combining the stills, video and some audio that fused all together it becomes a really emotionally charged movie.  Please take a look and enjoy.

Boston Brain Tumor Ride 2011 | National Brain Tumor Society

Boston Brain Tumor Ride 2011  |  National Brain Tumor Society

For the second year in a row Theresa and I volunteered for the annual Boston Brain Tumor Ride put together by the National Brain Tumor Society.  It's been a decade since my Dad passed away from a very aggressive brain tumor, and my Mom's cancer has been in remission for a number of months now.  So you can see this organization and their mission to raise awareness and raise money to fight brain tumors is a cause we find truly significant.

We woke up early to severe rain, but by some miracle from the time we arrived at the ride in Waltham until the moment the last award was given out, it held off.  Spirits were high and all the generous people were out to have a good time for a great cause.  One of the teams, Team Bunny, had raised an amazing $250,000 in only 5 or so years.  Crazy impressive!  Please find more information about these causes here:

Friends of Boston's Homeless | Beyond Shelter Gala | House of Blues

Friends of Boston's Homeless  |  Beyond Shelter Gala  |  House of Blues

A few weeks ago, while working on the house (all Theresa and I do now) and listening to 92.5FM, I heard this ad for the Friends of Boston's Homeless Beyond Shelter annual gala.  Not knowing anything about the organization or what the gala was all about I contacted the events director and volunteered my photography services.  It sounded like a great cause, helping Boston's homeless not only get off the streets but to get lasting housing and jobs.  From their website they write, "One of the most effective solutions to homelessness is to help homeless individuals gain independence through education, employment, life skills development, and permanent housing."  It's an amazing cause and come to find out it's run by some truly giving, generous and amazing people as well.  I was very happy to donate my services for the evening to lend a small hand.  Find out more about the event on their website, but there was live music by Mango Blue, amazing food by dozens of Boston restaurants (see the complete list here), and a great raffle.  All raising money for the Friends of Boston's Homeless mission.  The House of Blues was packed!  Mayor Menino even came out and said a few words.  Please think about attending next year as it was more than worth the price of admission.  Now take a look:

Commercial Shoot | MA College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences

I was happy to hear from a graphic designer I had met at the Brain Tumor Bike Ride I photographed back in May.  She now works in the admissions department at 'the oldest institution of higher education in the city of Boston' - MA College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.  It was founded in 1832 and has a pretty cool location over on Longwood and some interesting architecture.  Anyway, they needed some images to show off a couple of their newer computer and student study areas.  It's always a fine line we photographers have to walk to capture the image without disturbing 'the moment'.  Here's a few that both MCPHS and I liked:

Boston Brain Tumor Ride 2010

Yesterday was the 16th Annual Boston Brain Tumor Ride, an amazing event put together by the National Brain Tumor Society to raise awareness and to build a greater sense of community about the issue of brain tumor's. So many have been affected by brain tumors, or have known someone who has a tumor or have lost a loved one to a brain tumor. And yet, these strong people showed up yesterday to do the 10, 25 or 50 mile bike ride in someone's memory.

I heard about the event on NPR, of course, and thought what a good opportunity it would be to volunteer our photography services. This issue is so relevant and personal to us and I was glad to be a very small part of the day. You may or not know I lost my father to a brain tumor in 2001, and my mother developed a brain tumor a few years ago which is now in remission thanks to the routine chemotherapy she undergoes every 6 weeks or so. Theresa also lost her mother to cancer and we are both thankful to organizations like the Brain Tumor Society that fight to help find a cure. It was truly amazing to hear people's stories yesterday, and in the face of real tragedy, see the hope that still remained.
