Worcester Engagement Photos | Stephanie + Mark

It was so nice to finally be able to get together with Stephanie and Mark for their Engagement Shoot in Worcester last Saturday. We admit we weren't very familiar with Worcester before the shoot but we scouted out a bunch of locations the day before and really got lucky with the two places we decided on. Tons of color, great open fields and we even brought a kite along for that little x-factor (not to mentioned we thought their cute little girl would love it, and she did!). Stephanie and Mark didn't have any problems showing their love and just laughing it up - that makes our jobs too easy. Thanks guys. Now take a look:

What a perfect little model.

Boston Event Photography | JVS with Robert DeLeo

I'm glad I was available when I got a call to cover Massachusetts Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo's visit to JVS in Boston. JVS is a great organization and their mission "is to empower individuals from diverse communities to find employment and build careers, and to partner with employers to hire, develop, and retain productive workforces" (taken directly from their website, here.) Speaker DeLeo got the tour, saw some of the amazing work these educators and volunteers are doing to help people better themselves to be more prepared to find work. Here's a link to the JVS website:

Boston Wedding Photography | Tough Decisions

“The photographer you entrust with preserving those memories plays one of the most important roles in your wedding. As the years pass, what will remain of your wedding are your photographs, and you will eventually rely on them to remember the event and to share it with your children and grandchildren."

I have always loved this quote from the first time I read it. For me, one of the greatest things about photography is how looking at an image instantly takes me back to the time and the place when the image was made. It's easier to recollect the events surrounding the photograph, and to feel what you felt. And it's that ability of a good photograph to bring us back to emotions we felt that is so powerful. I came across an interesting blog post by a wedding photographer in Southern California, who wrote about the tough decision about sacrificing quality for price when it comes to your photographer. You may want to save a few $$ but be sure you find someone who's work you love, who is a professional, and who can deliver the type of imagery you are looking for. It's those images that you will have to remember the day when you and your love said 'I do'. Here's the link to his blog post. And this is a very interesting article he links to that was featured in a Seattle Bride Magazine. The Magazine sent out an amateur photographer to try to cover a wedding alongside a professional, and shows you the unfortunate results. Take a read here.

Happy Wednesday.

Boston Photographers | Easter Hike

After a long week of helping out Jim Scherer with a photoshoot for Dunkin' Donuts, I am finally finding the time to make this quickie post. Theresa and I went for a short hike the other day, you know back on Easter when it was actually warm out, and I grabbed this shot I like.

Nikon D700 Capture, ISO 200, f/8.0, 1/6 sec. And for a 1/6th of a second exposure it's tack sharp. Even I was impressed.

Feel free to grab it for your computer desktop. Enjoy!

Fine Art Photography | Art Show @ Gallery Seven

Gallery Seven in Maynard is having a show entitled 'Black and White in the Digital Age' and I am lucky enough to have 3 images in the show. Click here to check out their website for more information. My interest in photography really stems from a love for the landscape, the world outside ourselves. It's been a constant excuse to go to new places, to travel, to explore familiar places - all with camera in hand. We often get so caught up in ourselves, I love that photography can be meditation, looking at something ordinary in an abstract way. There is truly such beauty all around us, it just takes a lot of effort to slow down and see it and even more to capture it. Please check out Gallery Seven for the show information but also for their exemplary framing services.
Also please come to the show opening Saturday April 17th, from 7-9pm. You can see my prints up close - these are the ones in the show:

Hope to see you there!

Harvard Art Museum Lecture | Event Photography in Boston

It was exciting for us to be hired by the American Friends of Chartres to photograph a lecture at the Harvard Art Museum just this past Wednesday night. Patrice Calvel, who is the Architect in Chief of the Historic Monuments in France, led the lecture about past and current restoration projects at the cathedral of Nôtre-Dame de Chartres. It's hard to comprehend how much work and meticulous detail goes into the restoration of the stained glass at the cathedral, but the results are breath-taking. Now take a look:

I love this quick portrait Theresa made of Mr. Calvel.

A big thanks again to the American Friends of Chartres president Monika Riely for having us. Take a look at their website to see the good work they are doing.
