A big thanks to Laura for being the second contributor to our ongoing advice feature, Bride 2 Bride. Take it away:
"There are so many things to keep in mind when planning your wedding, but something that I found made life easier is to have flexibility with your vision for your wedding day. It is much easier to work with vendors when things aren't written in stone, for example, maybe your florist will have a great idea for a type of flower that you didn't originally have in mind, and it ends up fitting in perfectly with your color scheme. I found that it reduces stress and is easier to be friendly to your budget when there is room to revise your vision as planning progresses. Also, if you're having trouble with ideas in the first place, there are so many wedding shows on TV that are a great source of inspiration and also to see what works and what doesn't!
Also, even though this bit of advice is in most wedding magazines and other wedding planning resources, I found it to be important enough to emphasize again - focus your budget on the things that are really important to you for your wedding day (for us it was food and photography). The comments we keep hearing from our guests (even 6 months later!) are how awesome food was at our wedding and how much they love the slideshow of our day that Theresa put together for us. It's easy to get caught up in the details - I'm pretty sure no one remembers the table numbers, which I agonized over for far too long… (luckily they weren't much of an impact on the budget, but had a way bigger impact on my free time than I ever would have thought was possible)!"
